Hans-Joachim Roedelius is one of the world?s foremost innovative electronic
keyboardist, and is a founding pioneer of the Kosmische Musik genre.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hans-Joachim Roedelius was born 26 October 1934 in Berlin. He became involved with experimental music in the late '60s with such bands as Plus/Minus, Noises, and Human Being. In 1968, along with Conrad Schnitzler, he was one of the co-founders of The Zodiak Free Arts Lab in Berlin which was comprised of avant-garde artists of various disciplines. Also a part of this underground scene was Dieter Moebius and in 1969 the three of them formed Kluster, performing radical improvisational music.
In 1971 Schnitzler left to pursue a solo career while Moebius and Roedelius continued as Cluster, recording a string of albums over the next decade that are among the top classics of German electronic music and highly influencial on today's electronic music.
Other musicians such as Michael Rother and Brian Eno sought out the highly gifted Cluster duo spawning more unforgettable recordings as Harmonia, Cluster & Eno, and Eno Moebius Roedelius.
At the same time Roedelius found time to begin recording countless solo albums, producing some of the most beautiful improvisational tracks that have ever graced the ears of eager listeners.
Also involved in most of the group and solo recording sessions throughout the '70s and '80s, until his untimely death in December 1987, was the legendary engineer Conny Plank who's immeasurable studio wizardry, creative musical ingenuity and influence made him an invaluable partner and friend to all those with the good fortune to work with him.
Though Cluster recorded sporadically in the late '80s and 90's, culminating in their swansong 1996 tour, Roedelius has devoted much of his time collaborating with many other artists and his extensive solo projects.
